Eradicate Hunger and Poverty....

A Saskatoon Area Challenge

Eradicate Hunger and Poverty

GGC 2010 National Service Project:

"Eradicate Hunger and Poverty"

We’re going UP!

The National goal is to collect 50 kg of food per unit in the year 2010. For us in Saskatoon Area that is  2250 kg’s and since were already nearly a quarter of the way there with the 476kgs that was collected at the Launch party.....why would we quit now??!!!

We challenge Unit Guiders to complete the service project with their units and help Saskatoon Area Guiding reach this goal together.

Total as of Sept 3rd: 935 kgs!!!

The crests are available to order through the National e-store.

Food collections can be dropped in the food  bin at Guide House.  The weight will be logged in to the National website under the 3rd Saskatoon Ranger Unit  and we’ll also keep track on our own donation thermometer at Guide House

The project is quite simple to complete and of course you can modify it to suit the needs of your unit. Members that attended the Launch Party have already nearly completed it!

Some fun ideas for food collection:

·        have girls choose one of the eight item types on the most wanted list and have a food bank drive at a meeting, bringing only that item type. Hint: a unit might like to choose a “heavy” type of item... J

·        Put all item types in a hat and have girls draw what they would bring.

·        Have girls bring their donation hidden in a bag, have her give hints to the rest of the group so they can guess what she brought

·        Have a “potluck dinner” – each girl brings two of the same item from the list, such as beans. The group eats one can as part of “potluck dinner” and the other goes in the food bank bin.
